I am studying Nursing and in my program we study a lot of different subject about human. This glossary should me or someone that could be interesting by the own body to express themselves correctly about my future career.
- antibiotic
- noun
- a medicine (such as penicillin or its derivatives) that inhibits the growth of or destroys microorganisms.
- blood test
- noun
- A test done on a sample of blood to measure the amount of certain substances in the blood or to count different types of blood cells. Blood tests may be done to look for signs of disease or agents that cause disease, to check for antibodies or tumor markers, or to see how well treatments are working.
- breathing
- noun
- The process of respiration, during which air is inhaled into the lungs through the mouth or nose due to muscle contraction and then exhaled due to muscle relaxation.
- coma
- noun
- A state of deep unconsciousness that lasts for a prolonged or indefinite period, caused especially by severe injury or illness.
- dementia
- noun
- A chronic or persistent disorder of the mental processes caused by brain disease or injury and marked by memory disorders, personality changes, and impaired reasoning.
- diabetes
- noun
- A disease in which the body’s ability to produce or respond to the hormone insulin is impaired, resulting in abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates and elevated levels of glucose in the blood and urine.
- drug
- noun
- A medicine or other substance which has a physiological effect when ingested or otherwise introduced into the body.
- faeces

- Waste matter discharged from the bowels after food has been digested; excrement.
- fever
- noun
- An abnormally high body temperature, usually accompanied by shivering, headache, and in severe instances, delirium.
- hemorrhage
- noun
- An escape of blood from a ruptured blood vessel, especially when profuse.
- infection

- The process of infecting or the state of being infected.
- insulin
- noun
- A hormone produced in the pancreas by the islets of Langerhans, which regulates the amount of glucose in the blood. The lack of insulin causes a form of diabetes.
- medication

- A substance used for medical treatment, especially a medicine or drug.
- necrosis
- noun
- The death of most or all of the cells in an organ or tissue due to disease, injury, or failure of the blood supply.
- pill
- noun
- A small round mass of solid medicine to be swallowed whole.
- secretion
- noun
- A process by which substances are produced and discharged from a cell, gland, or organ for a particular function in the organism or for excretion.
- swelling
- noun
- An abnormal enlargement of a part of the body, typically as a result of an accumulation of fluid.
- urinary catheter
- noun
- A urinary catheter is a tube placed in the body to drain and collect urine from the bladder.
- vaccine
- noun
- A substance used to stimulate the production of antibodies and provide immunity against one or several diseases, prepared from the causative agent of a disease, its products, or a synthetic substitute, treated to act as an antigen without inducing the disease.
- Wound
- noun
- An injury to living tissue caused by a cut, blow, or other impact, typically one in which the skin is cut or broken.
